Game ON!

Hi Everyone,

Good News!  The remaining outstanding jerseys have arrived, so if you haven't gotten yours yet we have them now.

We've had a few injuries so please don't over do it, we have a long season.  Drink lots of fluids and warm up and stretch before and after the games.   Take a break when you need it.  We are all at different fitness levels there is no need to push ourselves too far.

It is going to be a warm one tonight (bring lots of water) and there is a chance of rain or thunderstorms.  We do play in the rain, however, if there is lightning and thunder we will stop.  It usually passes quickly and we can wait it out in some cars until it does.

If anyone is interested in joining us, we are going for a drink at the boar's head tonight after the game.

See you all tonight!

1st Game tonight

Hi Everyone,

We have our first game of the 2015 season tonight.  Looks like the sun is going to come out for it!

We have a great mix of new and old, beginner and veteran players so it looks to be a great season!

Unfortunately do to availability we had to make some order changes for the team jerseys and all of the new jerseys have not arrived from overseas yet.  Some players will have to make do with pinnies tonight. Rest assured they are en route and everyone will get a new jersey soon.  If possible, please bring a light and dark shirt just in case we need to make changes tonight.

I have attached some pics of the replacement jerseys.

For those wanting to a refresher or tips tonight, I will be at the field by 6pm so please come early.

Please review the league rules.  We are all about fun, friends and exercise, not scoring or stats.

For insurance reasons and your safety, please make sure you have cleats and shin pads, as you won't be able to play without them.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting some new friends tonight.  Thanks to those that have notified us of their absence tonight.  We will see you soon.

New for the 2015 season

Hi Everyone,

As promised, here are some of the changes for the upcoming season based upon the feedback that was provided at the end of last year.

We've created a Google Calendar, you can import into your own calendar.  Hopefully this will improve attendance by reminding everyone of their commitments.  The Calendar is also available on our website.

We will no longer be accepting cash or cheques at the field.  You can pay online for your membership or we will be accepting credit cards at the field.  This will create a precise record of membership payments and should eliminate non-payers.

For the first 2 weeks of the season (May 13th and May 20th) we will have a clinic to go over:
  • the rules of 7aside coed soccer
  • emphasize that everyone should take turns playing every position, captains will enforce, if necessary.
  • we are a pass first league, ball hogs are not wanted
  • if you aren't getting the ball enough, make sure to move to an open spaces on the field
  • Kick-off is at 6:45pm, means you need to be ready to play at 6:45pm so you're not holding up the game
  • If your tired, take a break.  Don't push yourself too hard.  Drink lots of water.
  • For the month of May we will play 4 quarters instead of 2 halves.

We are also looking for sponsors for our teams, if you are interested or know of anyone, please have them call 226-766-9019 or email 7asidesoccer@gmail.com us.

**Reminder that Early Bird Registration ends at midnight on March 19th.  By paying for your membership by the 19th you will save $10!  Plus you will get Your Name and Your Number on Your Jersey.  Optionally, if you choose to participate you will also be included in the Lotto Max draw on March 20th.

Early Bird Registration Open for 2015 Season

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are enjoying the winter.

New and exciting changes are afoot for the 2015 season that starts May 13th.

We will be implementing some of the suggestions we received from the end of season survey.  Details to come.

The most frequent suggestion was to increase attendance and commitment.  So to that end we are offering an amazing deal for early bird registration.

Registrations with online payments made between now and Midnight on March 19th, 2015 are included in the early bird registration.  You will get an all new national team style jersey and shorts with your name and your number on the back. (pics attached)  Optionally you can be included in the Lotto Max Lottery on March 20th, 2015.  All this and we lowered the price to $60.  Don't miss out on this Great Deal!

After March 19th the price goes back to $70 and your national team jersey will not have your name and your number on it.  You are not included in the group lottery.

So please help spread the word and let's make this season the best yet!

Survey Results

Thanks to everyone that took time to complete our 2014 survey.  We wanted to share the results.

Most people have very positive things to say about our league.
  • "Love the friendliness"
  • "Good group of people"
  • "Not too competitive"
  • "Really liked the half-field of play"
  • "Good fun and exercise"
  • "Great attitude and supportive"
  • "Love that all skill levels can play together"

There are areas that require improvement.
  • "Dislike people hogging the ball"
  • "Games take a long time to get organized because players arrive late"
  • "Frustrating at times because people of higher skill don't give lesser skilled players a chance"
  • "Not enough attendance, especially as the season goes on."
  • "Not enough people taking turn at goal-tender"
  • "Not enough passing to all players, regardless of skill"
  • "No Pay, No play even at the end of the season"
  • "Start on time"

Suggestions for next season.
  • "Numbers and/or Names on jerseys"
  • "Make people accountable for their attendance"
  • "Once per month, have a game where we keep score"
  • "Recruit more players"
  • "Penalize players that don't play as a team"
  • "Season should be longer"
  • "Skills clinic at the start of the season, especially for new players"
  • "Shorter games"
  • "Less practising, more playing"

Rest assured your organizers are listening.  We have already met to discuss these results and are investigating and planning improvements.  While there are things that we as organizers can and will do, we ask each of you to consider your own roll in the results of the survey.  Ask yourself, "How have I contributed to the positive and negative comments above?"  and "How can I help to improve the league?"   It is your league, let's make it the best it can be!

Stay tuned for a "What's New for 2015" email in February!

We thank you for playing 7asidesoccer soccer and look forward to seeing you in 2015.
